He famously hollowed out a log and started using it as a log still, or so the story was passed on. When the popularity of his bourbon grew, J.W. Dant bought a copper still and established the first Dant distillery. In 2021, descendants of J.W. Dant opened the Log Still distillery, paying homage to their family’s distilling legacy. This 7-year-old Kentucky Sour Mash bourbon whiskey was distilled by Schenley at the Gethsemane Distillery, and bottled in the 1960s of 70s at their plant in Aladdin, PA.
